Serving the community for more than eight years, Darien TV79 was previously available only to Cablevision subscribers who live in the town of Darien. Now, anyone with an Internet connection can see Darien town government in action.

“You can watch on your computer, tablet or smart-phone,” said TV79 Program Director Jim Cameron. “You can even download our shows for viewing off-line. This should open the work of town government to a whole new audience. It’s pretty exciting.”

General Manager David Dever also commented on the on-demand offer.

“Currently our on-demand offering is made through Vimeo.com,” said  Dever. “Best of all, there is no cost to viewers to see our coverage. And stay tuned for more enhancements in the months to come.”

Darien TV79 has committed to archiving every town meeting relevant to this year’s budget process: Boards of Selectmen, Finance, Education and Representative Town Meeting.

Lynn Hamlen, chair of the Darien TV79 Advisory Board, said “Online access to Darien TV79 is just another step in the station’s mission to bring town government to the residents of Darien, wherever they may be. David Dever and Jim Cameron deserve our thanks for their tireless efforts over the years.”

As space allows, other meetings will also be archived. To find the Darien TV79 channel on Vimeo, just visit www.DarienCT.gov/TV79 and follow the links.

Staffed by volunteers and paid camera operators, Darien TV79 is funded by Cablevision subscribers and the town of Darien.
