Darien Seniors, Disabled Eligible For Rent Rebates

DARIEN, Conn. – Darien senior citizens or disabled people who are renters may be eligible for rent rebates from the state for 2011. Applications for rebates will be accepted through Sept. 15 at the Darien Social Service Department.

To be eligible, applicants must have a one-year residency in Connecticut and be 65 years old as of Dec. 31, 2011, or receive Social Security disability. Married couples may not have an income exceeding $39,500 and unmarried individuals may not have an income exceeding $32,300.

All income from applicants must be reported and documented. This includes Social Security, pensions, interest on bank accounts, dividends and wages. If a 2011 Federal Income Tax Return was filed, a copy is required. Proof of rent and utility payments is required for every month you were renting. Receipts or cancelled checks are acceptable.
