Burglars Break Into Several Unlocked Darien Cars

DARIEN, Conn. — Darien police are again warning residents to lock their cars after a string of vehicles was broken into between Friday night and Saturday morning.

A total of nine unlocked cars were hit on Marianne Road, Shady Acres Road, Ridge Acres Road and Woodley Road. All of these roads are off Brookside Road. Some of the burglaries were reported to police, while others were discovered as officers were canvassing the neighborhood.

All of the cars were parked in driveways, with the exception of one car on Woodley Road that was left in an open garage. Two bags of quarters worth $20, a gym bag with $445 worth of clothes and shoes, a $160 iPod and a $100 bluetooth headset were among the items taken.

One resident of Ridge Acres Road said his motion sensor lights went off about 3 a.m., when police said the burglaries could have taken place.

Police Capt. Fred Komm reiterated the advice that is printed on the back windshield of most Darien police cruisers: "Lock your car. Every time. Everywhere."
