The Darien Police Commission announced on Tuesday, Feb. 27 the appointment of Capt. Jeremiah P. Marron, Jr. as the department's 12th Chief of Police.

Marron, a 28-year veteran of the department, will assume command of the department on Friday, April 1, following the retirement of the current Chief, Donald B. Anderson, said Kim Hiffard, chairman of the Police Commission.

The soon-to-be next chief became a Darien patrol officer in 1996, a sergeant in 2006, a lieutenant in 2017, and a captain in 2019.

Before his promotion to chief, he served as the department's executive officer and commander of the Field Services Bureau.

Marron holds a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Sacred Heart University and an advanced Certificate in Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia.

He is also a 2022 graduate of the FBI National Academy and the FBINAA Regional Command College in 2023.

Chief Marron is a second-generation Darien Police officer, son of the late Capt. Jeremiah P. Marron, Sr., who also served the department with honor from 1967 to 1989, and Pauline Marron, formerly of Darien, Hiffard added.

"Over our almost 100-year history, the Darien Police Department has had a long-standing history of highly skilled, fully engaged and exemplary chiefs of police," Anderson said. "With the selection of Jeremiah P. Marron, Jr. as my successor, I am wholly confident that the department will continue to be guided by a chief who will ensure that the absolute highest quality, professional public safety and law enforcement service is provided to all residents, business owners and visitors to the Town of Darien."
