Darien residents, get ready to rock out. This Sunday, June 10, Rorys will host an afternoon of homegrown music, food, drinks and dancing at its second annual Roots Rock and Reggae Outside, said restaurant owner Bryan Malcarney.
I wanted to do something fun here where we could have bands outside, he said.
Anabass, Pasofino Social Club, Anthem and Finger Sleeve are a few of the musical groups set to perform.
Proceeds from Roots, Rock and Reggae will benefit local organizations, including Click it for Cassie and Rorys Community Charities, which support the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, the Kate Swaney Foundation and the American Liver Foundation, to name a few.
Each suggested donation of $10 will also help contribute to the Open Door Shelter on Merritt Street in Norwalk, which Malcarney is especially happy to support.
Im excited about the event because I know the proceeds are going to have a direct effect on the people actually serviced by the shelter, Malcarney said.
Malcarney hopes the event will garner about $5,000.
Although it is only Malcarney's second year hosting Roots Rock and Reggae, he is no stranger to volunteerism. For the past six years, he has participated in the Food Banks annual Connoisseurs Dinner. There he has cooked dishes such as stuffed filet mignon with foie gras and braised sweet and sour cabbage.
Malcarney is a graduate of the French Culinary Institute in New York City and is also co-owner of Blue Lemon Restaurant in Westport. He said he is living out his childhood ambition.

Roots, Rock and Reggie Outside at Rory's will be held from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 10. Also, don't forget to bring your appetite: the event will feature a Jamaican menu of Caribbean lobster, rum punch and Red Stripe beer.
