Depot Hosts Annual Darien Community Spelling Bee

DARIEN, Conn. – Assemble a team and brush up on your spelling for Darien’s third annual Community Spelling Bee. This fundraiser for the Depot Youth Center will be held at Darien Town Hall on March 18.

Teams of three will work together. In past years teams from many different groups at Darien High School have taken part, including the field hockey team, the crew team, Post 53 and the National Honor Society. There have also been many teams from town organizations and businesses, such as the Darien Chamber of Commerce, the boards of Education and Finance, the Darien Library, the Noroton Fire Department and TD Bank.

The event will be emceed by Channel 12 News anchors Becky Surran and Tom Appleby. Registration is $150 per team. A plaque acknowledging the winning team will hang in the Depot for years to come.

The registration form can be found on the Depot’s website, and must be received by March 8. If you don’t want to participate in the actual spelling, you can still sponsor a team, volunteer to help set up the event, or donate door prizes that will be given away to the audience.
