“Readers will appreciate the insider's view of the ballet world,” says Cooper, who drew on her professional dance background for authenticity. “It's also a story of self-empowerment. I wrote the story to remind readers that they have the power to change their lives.”
Cooper, who now resides in California, lost her mother to alcoholism in 1996. She chose Dec. 2 as the book's release date, which was her mother's birthday.
A portion of proceeds from the book will be donated to organizations whose efforts promote social awareness about destructive decisions.
The book is the first novel from Cooper, who previously worked as a commercial photographer. Her work has been featured in Discovery Girls magazine, “How to Build a Ballerina Body” and “The Daily Guide to Photography.”
