Darien Benefit Supports Brain Disease Research

DARIEN, Conn. – Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Darien’s Wohlberg family and help find a cure for the rare neurological disease Rasmussen Encephalitis. The Turning Love Into Power II benefit will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. at Woodway Country Club.

The fundraising event will feature jazz by the Faker Five, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and plenty of sweets. Frances Jensen of Children’s Hospital Boston will give a talk. There will also be a silent auction.

In 2008, Grace Wohlberg was diagnosed with Rasmussen Encephalitis, a rare disease that paralyzes half the body and causes epileptic seizures. At the age of 10, she underwent a procedure in which half of her brain was removed.

Grace's father Seth started RE Children’s project shortly after to raise funds for researching the causes and possible cure for Rasmussen Encephalitis. The inaugural Turning Love Into Power event last year was sold out and raised more than $200,000.

Tickets are $135 per person and can be found at www.REChildrens.org.
