Finding a restaurant that prioritizes vegetarian and vegan options isn’t easy, but two Fairfield County eateries ranked high in Connecticut Magazine for having exemplary vegetarian and vegan cuisine.

The rankings were compiled by the magazine’s “panel of culinary experts,” who analyzed the offerings of each restaurant in the state. Here are the three Fairfield County locales that made the cut:

  • Bloodroot (Bridgeport): Serving up a wide variety of seasonal, local and organic menu options, Bloodroot, a self-described feminist vegetarian restaurant tucked away at 85 Ferris Street, is full of bold and unique offerings, all 100 percent vegetarian (and some vegan). The New York Times called the establishment a “salon for activists” due to the fact that it doubles as a bookstore. For more information, visit the website .
  • The Schoolhouse at Cannondale (Wilton): Winner of several Diner’s Choice awards, The Schoolhouse at Cannondale, located at 34 Cannon Road, offers fresh and exotic flavors despite its relatively small menu. However, the eatery offers a number of ways to enjoy your meal: visit the restaurant for dinner Wednesday, Friday or Saturday, enjoy a Price Fixe dinner on Thursday, lunch on Friday and Saturday as well as Sunday brunch.

The upscale establishment is also known for its sophisticated and relaxing atmosphere.

“The quaint, tucked-away outdoor area near a little stream is so charming. Pair the scene with the amazing food, and you have something truly special,” said Adeline Crites-Moore, founder of Adeline Jessica in Connecticut.

  • Shandals Vegetarian Cafe (Bridgeport): Nestled at 520 Capitol Avenue, Shandals Vegetarian Cafe provides Jamaican and Caribbean twists on several vegetarian and vegan options for both lunch and dinner. Opened in May of 2004, the eatery has established itself as an area staple, garnering a near-perfect 4.9/5-star rating on Facebook. For more information, visit the restaurant’s Facebook page .
