The personal finance website WalletHub compared data from all 50 states and the District of Columbia to determine 2017's best and worst states to have a baby. Connecticut ranked fourth best on the list. Vermont was named the best state to have a baby, while Mississippi was named the worst, according to WalletHub.
WalletHub looked at 20 key metrics to create its list, include charges for conventional delivery at hospitals, average annual infant care costs, and the number of pediatricians per capita. Overall, Connecticut ranked 42nd in terms of cost, ninth in terms of health care accessibility, third in terms of baby friendliness and ninth in terms of family friendliness, according to WalletHub.

- Infant Mortality Rate: 18th
- Rate of Low Birth-Weight: 24th
- Midwives and OB-GYNs per Capita: 15th
- Pediatricians and Family Doctors per Capita: 9th
- Child-Care Centers per Capita: 18th
- Parental-Leave Policy Score: 5th
