Darien Ranked As State's Best Suburb To Live In

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Several suburban municipalities in Fairfield County were ranked among the best in the state to live in by lifestyle and education website Niche.

Darien took top honors for suburban areas in the Nutmeg State, followed closely by New Canaan, Westport and Wilton.

Niche compiled data in several key categories to determine its rankings:

school ratings
crime rates
housing
employment
community
things to do

Darien boasted both household and individual median incomes well over the national average as well as poverty and crime rates that were below the norm.

The town struggled in cost of living areas, predominantly, with homes that are older than the national average and more expensive to rent or own.

Westport at No. 3
Wilton at No. 4
Weston at No. 6
Fairfield at No. 7
Easton at No. 14
Redding at No. 18
