The show is called “Impressões de água” or “Impressions of Water.”

The exhibit runs through Sept. 30 at the Geary Gallery located at 576 Boston Post Road in Darien.

Aguiar’s interest in drawing began in adolescence and she began studying art and drawing at the Bela Art Institute and continued at the School of Interior Design, where she received her bachelor’s degree. She earned her master’s degree at Pontificia Universidade Catolica, in Rio de Janeiro.

She joined the studio of Roberto de Souza (grand master of the Brazilian School of Belas Artes) where she mastered the technique of oil painting.

Aguiar also attended courses at the Spring Studio in New York City, where she mastered her technique of figure drawing and anatomy using live models.

Her adulthood has been dedicated to her oil paintings, and following in the footsteps of Impressionist artists she admires, including Monet, Renoir and Manet. Aguiar’s primary subjects are figures and waterscapes. She often finds inspiration in her grandchildren, and the beauty of childhood has helped her to create some of her favorite pieces of work on linen canvas.

Aguiar also loves to document the changing seasons. Her fall paintings display the diversity of colors in autumn such as the changing from yellow to caramel, and awakens her passion for the season. The colors of spring help her to create her compositions with subtleness, and the white-blue hues of snow bring a quietness to her winter pieces. Summertime regattas playing in the wind inspire her warm-weather pieces.

She now spends most of her time in Rio and Riverside with her family, painting her pieces and teaching oil and acrylic painting classes, in both private and small group settings. To view Aguiar’s work, visit Geary's online gallery.

Aguiar's paintings are available for acquisition. All are welcome, and admission is free to the exhibit.

Geary Gallery is open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is located at 576 Boston Post Road, Darien.
