DARIEN, Conn. – The seventh annual JR Schoen Memorial Walk is set for noon to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, beginning at Pear Tree Point Beach.
The walk honors the memory of JR Schoen, a 9-year-old boy who died of a brain tumor in 2008. The JR Schoen Memorial Foundation Inc. was started to provide research funding that will aim to find the cause and the cure for aggressive brain tumors found in children and those similar tumors found in adults.
To register to take part in the walk, visit the website for the JR Schoen Memorial Foundation.
The route will take a left turn out of the beach parking lot, then proceed north on Pear Tree Point Road, turn south on Long Neck Point Road and return to the beach, traveling west on Pear Tree Point Road.
Vehicles are only allowed to travel north on Long Neck Point Road and south on Pear Tree Point Road while the event is happening.
There will likely be delays for motorists, but officers will be posted to help keep traffic flowing and walk participants safe.
