Fairfield University Professor To Talk On Wealth Inequality In Darien

DARIEN, Conn. -- Fairfield University professor Philip J. Lane is presenting a program on income inequality and Thomas Picketty’s Book "Capital in the Twenty-First Century" on Thursday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the Darien Library.

Discussions will surround the history of income inequality, gender income inequality and inherited wealth. Attendees do not have to have read the book to attend this discussion.

"Capital in the Twenty-First Century" analyzes a collection of data from 20 countries, ranging as far back as the 18th century, to uncover key economic and social patterns, transform debate and set the agenda for the next generation of thought about wealth and inequality. 

Lane is an associate professor of economics at Fairfield University. His areas of research interests include depository institutions, deregulation of the financial system and financial modeling. 

His areas of teaching experience include money and banking, financial markets and institutions, and macroeconomics. 

He received a bachelor's in economics from Providence College, a master's in economics from Northeastern University and a doctorate in economics from Tufts University. 

He is the adviser to the Economics Club and the College Federal Reserve Challenge team at Fairfield University. He is a member of and the past president (2004-05) of the Trumbull Rotary Club.
