Smart’s story is one of perseverance and faith due to her abduction as a child and eventual return to her parents and society. As victim turned advocate, Smart has penned two publications, “My Story” and a Department of Justice publication, “You’re Not Alone: The Journey from Abduction to Empowerment.” She also founded the Elizabeth Smart Foundation and helped promote the National AMBER Alert, The Adam Walsh Child Protection & Safety Act and safety legislation to prevent abductions.
Smart attended Brigham Young University as a harp performance major. She married her husband, Matthew, in 2012.
