Darien Service Plaza Hosts Child Safety Day Sunday

DARIEN, Conn. -- The Darien Service Plaza is set to host the second Child Safety Day on Sunday, April 27.

The day is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the I-95 Darien Southbound Service Plaza. Representatives will hand out free AmberAlert Child ID cards to parents or guardians of the children in attendance. WEBE 108-FM is co-sponsoring Child Safety Day and will broadcast live from the event.

AmberAlert Child ID cards are wallet-sized, laminated cards that include a photo of the child, a unique AmberAlert number and "essential information needed to find the child in the event of an abduction," according to a press release.

Registration and the first AmberAlert ID card are free; additional cards can be purchased for $2.

“These ID cards ensure that the AmberAlert system has all of the child’s essential information as well as a good picture. This means that this information can be made available to law enforcement as fast as possible in the unfortunate case that a child goes missing or is abducted,” said Jack Eagan, Clinton Rotary Club Amber Alert Child ID Coordinator. The Clinton Rotary Club is co-sponsoring the event.

The AmberAlert ID cards ensure that officers in the field will have access to a clear, up to date photo. The Connecticut State Police can also use the AmberAlert database to distribute the information outside the state to aid in the search.

“Here at CT Service Plazas we care about the communities we serve and we want the children of Connecticut to be as safe as possible,” said Paul Landino, president and chief executive officer of Project Service. “If we can do one small thing to help ensure children’s’ safety we want to make that possible.”
