Joyce, the author of "The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry" and the forthcoming "Perfect: A Novel," will chat with readers using Skype at 2 p.m. Nov. 14 in the library’s conference room, according to a press release.
In "Perfect: A Novel," Joyce "delivers an exquisite and emotionally resonant novel about the search for the truth and unconditional love," according to the release.
"In 1972, two seconds are added to time. Because 'time was out of kilter with the natural movement of the Earth,' twelve-year-old Byron Hemming is terrified of what this may mean," representatives said in the release. "It seems only Byron and his friend, James, take the issue of the added time seriously. But it is on the way to school in the English countryside, along with Byron’s mother, Diana, where those two seconds become life-changing. An accident occurs – or does it? Byron is sure it happened, but Diana, sitting right next to him in the car, has no reaction to it. Were those two extra seconds to blame? Can what follows ever be set right?"
