Darien Arts Center Announces Upcoming Schedule Of Events

DARIEN, CONN. – The Darien Arts Center has released their upcoming event schedule of educational programs.

The center's series of theater classes for children begins on Tuesday, Feb. 24, with each class scheduled to run on 12 Tuesdays until May 19.

Television, film and theater veteran Kitty Robertson will lead each class, which is $230 per student and includes a $25 registration fee.

Myths and Magic is the first class, designed to help three and 3-year-olds develop their imagination through theater games.

Storytelling Through Improv helps kindergarteners through second-graders develop an understanding of constructing a story.

Play Building I (for second- and third-graders) and Play Building II (for fourth- through sixth-graders) will allow students to create a show complete with props, costumes, and scenery.

The Arts Center will also have two one-day workshops for children and adults.

Award-winning pastel artist Justin Davis will lead an adult pastel workshop on Saturday, March 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Davis will teach drawing and pastel techniques, helping students create a finished still life painting. The class is $80 per person with no registration fee, and all are welcome. Registration deadline is noon on March 6.

Beth Cherico, the center's visual arts director, has a Spring Forward Into Art class for ages 5 and up on Saturday, March 28, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Cherico will help guide the creation of several art projects celebrating spring. The class is $30 per person with no registration fee. Registration deadline is noon on March 27.

The center is at 2 Renshaw Road in Darien, behind Town Hall.
