Giff will discuss her latest work, "Genevieve’s War," a companion story to "Lily’s Crossing." Her talk will be followed by a book signing with books from Barrett Bookstore on sale at the event.
After spending over 20 years as a full-time teacher, Giff began writing and specializes in children's literature. She lives in Trumbull.
She earned the Newbery Honor for "Pictures of Hollis Woods" and "Lily’s Crossing."
In "Genevieve’s War," 13-year-old American girl Genevieve has spent the summer of 1939 at her grandmother’s farm in Alsace, France, and makes an impulsive choice to stay in France. It proves to be a dangerous decision as World War II erupts.
The Nazis conquer Alsace and deport the Jews and others. A frightening German officer commandeers a room in Meme’s farmhouse. And when Gen’s friend Remi commits an act of sabotage, Gen is forced to hide him in the attic―right above the Nazi officer’s head.
The event will be in the Community Room from 4 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2.
