Attorney For Trayvon Martin's Family To Speak At NAACP Event In Darien

DARIEN, Conn. -- Jasmine Rand, who represented the family of shooting victim Trayvon Martin, will be the featured speaker at the 13th annual NAACP Norwalk Branch Freedom Fund Banquet at The Water’s Edge at Giovanni’s in Darien on Sept. 27.

Rand, head of the Civil Rights Division of Parks & Crump in Tallahassee, Fla., will discuss the high-profile Trayvon Martin case.

This presentation coincides with the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, as set forth by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1963.

Rand has focused her career on the advocacy of human rights issues. In addition to her dynamic legal practice, she taught Legal Problems of the Poor at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University.

Using media to bring attention to civil rights issues, she has been featured as a legal analyst on CNN, MSNBC and Fox, on shows such as "Nancy Grace," "The O’Reilly Factor," "Hard Ball with Chris Mathews" and "Starting Point with Soledad O’Brien" and has appeared in Spanish on Telemundo.

In 2012, Rand received the Lawyers’ Committee For Civil Rights Under Law’s national Distinguished Civil Rights Advocate Award “for fulfilling the legal profession’s highest ideal in advancing equal justice for all.”

She is currently involved in representing victims of police brutality cases throughout the nation.

The Rev. Lindsay Curtis will be the master of ceremonies. Tickets are $65 per person.
