DARIEN, Conn. -- Live in a town long enough and you know what it needs.
That was basically the driver behind Spree, the women's clothing store opened by Lindsay Westbrook in August 2011. As someone who has always loved clothes -- and dreamed of opening her own boutique -- the Darien resident saw a hole in the market for fun, stylish, and affordable clothes for women.
The rest, as they say, is history. Spree has been successful, she said, because she tries to get to know her customers and anticipate what they want before they even know they want it.
As a mom of two who lives in town, she instinctively knows what might be popular because she wants to wear those clothes too.
On trend now: The off the shoulder look, which will continue through Fall. Shirting and embellished sleeves are also big as are jeans with some destruction.
Look, too, for the return of the bomber jacket as well as embroidery.
"I sell a lot of tops for going out and jeans," said Westbrook. "This time of the year people are also looking for a dress that you can just throw on and go for the day."
Spree is at 1076 Post Rd., Darien, 203-655-0226.
