Officers were first called to the As Seen on TV store, where the suspect, Javed Ahmed Salam, 26, bought a $10 item with a $100 bill. Police said employees later realized the bill was counterfeit, said newstimes.com
Police were quickly able to identify Salam after viewing the store's surveillance camera and an officer remembered seeing the man while walking through the mall minutes earlier, added newstimes.com.
Salam was still in the mall when arrested; he was charged with eight counts each of forgery and sixth-degree larceny, newstimes.com said.
Officers later learned that Salam had also used the fake bills at several other stores including Dick’s Sporting Goods, Uniqlo, Children's Place, Hollister, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Cotton On, said the newstimes.com.
He was held on a $50,000 bond until his arraignment on Thursday, when he was released. Salam is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 29.
