DANBURY, Conn. A Danbury man sustained minor injuries Friday afternoon after he jumped from the Newtown Road overpass onto an embankment on westbound Interstate 84, according to Bethel Police.
The identity of the man has not been disclosed, but Bethel Police Capt. David Bruckenthal said he faces charges of breach of peace and interfering with an officer. He was being treated Friday afternoon at Danbury Hospital, police said.
The incident started in Bethel at about 2:49 p.m. when the man and three of his friends were seen arguing on the side of Stony Hill Road across from the Target store, Bruckenthal said. The friends wrestled the suspect back into their car and drove off, he said.
But the man, who was believed to be intoxicated, jumped out of the car a short distance later and leaped about 30 feet off the overpass onto the embankment near Exit 8, Bruckenthal said.
Bethel, Danbury and State Police officers responded to the scene as the mans friends tried to help him, but the man got up and ran across both lanes of I-84 before he was apprehended.
Traffic screeched to a halt for a moment, but I-84 was not closed, Bruckenthal said. No accidents or other injuries were reported.
