Danbury Residents To Get Prescription Drug Discount Cards

DANBURY, Conn. – Danbury residents could soon see the cost of their prescriptions cut nearly in half, thanks to a new discount card announced Thursday by Mayor Mark Boughton. The discount card applies to prescriptions not covered under insurance plans, according to a statement.

Danbury residents will receive prescription drug discount cards that could save up nearly half of the cost of medications.

The discount cards will be arriving in the mail for all Danbury residents regardless of age or income and will also be available at City Hall, officials said in the statement.

"It can be extremely difficult to cover the cost of prescriptions when insurance is not available. For this reason, I have taken the initiative to arrange for each Danbury resident to receive a City of Danbury Prescription Discount Card to help with their medication costs,” Boughton said in the statement.

The cards are part of an initiative available through the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, a statewide association of cities and towns. In addition to prescriptions, vision, hearing and Lasik services and some pet prescriptions are also covered by the discount program, according to the statement.

The program is free, and costs nothing for residents and the City of Danbury. More than 63,000 pharmacies across the country participate, including CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Walmart, Stop & Shop and Big Y.
