Gov. Dannel Malloy marched in front with Mayor Mark Boughton, both walking right behind the police honor guard. Danbury's many volunteer fire departments and  their bright engines brought up the rear.

The police and fire book-ended a parade that showcased the city's population, with kids and adults marching from Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, DAYO and civic groups such as the Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic War Veterans. Adults and children and alike from the Portuguese Cultural Center danced the entire route along Main Street in their colorful costumes.

Two parachutists dropped into Rogers Park as the parade was ending and city officials were preparing to begin a memorial ceremony to honor the city's fallen veterans.
