As of Wednesday, April 6, the bakery will be 20-years-old. Owner Marc Jayson, a Sherman resident, said he hopes to host a reunion of the Goodie Girls, the young high school teens that for years have been handing out smiles and pastries behind the counter. He is also planning to have a 20th anniversary cake on Saturday, April 9.
For now, however, he's busy baking. Pastries, muffins, cakes and breads are the backbone of the business and keep Jayson going from early in the morning until late in the afternoon. "We even make our own bagels," said the Culinary Institute of America trained chef.
The shop, with its old-fashioned feel, just came off a hectic Valentine's Day. Next up in terms of "craziness" is St. Patrick's Day. Jayson said he will make about 1,000 loaves of Irish soda bread that week, "give or take."
Other big holidays include Easter, Mother's Day and then graduations.
The Goodie Shoppe is located in the New Fairfield Shopping Center at 1 Brush Hill Road, (203) 746-7279.
