CEO, President Of Maritime Aquarium Out After Being On Job Just A Few Months

Months after taking over at the helm of the aquarium in Norwalk, Hanley has been relieved of her duties, officials announced on Monday, April 1. The move comes after she was unanimously chosen by the Executive Committee of the Aquariums Board of Trustees in November.

The Board announced that day-to-day duties of the president have been assumed by Dave Truedson, the new CEO, and John Joyce, the Aquarium’s CFO, with oversight by the Aquarium’s Board of Trustees.

“This is the process the Aquarium operated in for six months between the departure of Dr. Brian Davis in May 2018 and Hanley’s arrival in November,” they stated. “Because this is a matter of Aquarium personnel, more details will not be made public.”

Hanley, who was raised in New Fairfield, came to the aquarium after 24 years in the private sector. She was the third female to serve as president since the aquarium opened in 1988.

According to the Board, leadership “will remain focused on animal care, environmental education and marine conservation,” and no timetable or process for Hanley’s permanent successor has been announced. The new president will become the ninth in the Aquarium’s 31-year history.
