Temperatures Take A Winter Turn In Bridgeport As Snow Approaches

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — After a rainy weekend, it's time to bundle up as temperatures across Fairfield County plunge below freezing as the workweek begins and a storm threatens Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday will be sunny, with a high near 33 degrees. Wind chills will be between 15 and 20 with a west wind of 11 to 15 mph.

It will be even colder by night, with mostly clear skies and a low around 18. 

There is a chance of snow showers, mainly after 4 p.m. Tuesday. They day will be mostly cloudy, with a high near in the mid-30s but with wind chills of 10 to 20 degrees. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent. Temperatures will drop into the low 20s overnight, with a continued chance of snow. 

The weekend storms brought heavy rain and strong winds to the area. Here are rainfall totals from the National Weather Service for Sunday: 

  • Danbury Airport: 2.08 inches, recorded at 7 p.m.
  • Brookfield: 1.37 inches, recorded at 12:15 p.m.
  • Sikorsky Airport in Bridgeport/Stratford: 1.23 inches, recorded at 7 p.m.

Here are the recorded wind gusts, which caused widespread power outages on Sunday:

  • Stamford; 47 mph 
  • Sikorsky Airport in Bridgeport/Stratford: 40 mph
  • Norwalk: 38 mph
  • Danbury Airport: 32 mph
