The season's brief reprieve Sunday, an unseasonably balmy day, followed Saturday morning's drama when snowfall amounts were a half-foot and more around the region.
The sleet and rain that followed had come and gone by mid-day, and the mild weather stuck around most of Sunday.
Monday's high pressure will build over the region from the northwest, keeping a cold airmass in place, according to the National Weather Service.
Clouds will roll in and temperatures will reach only the upper 20s to lower 30s, said the NWS.
Monday will remain sunny but cold, about 29 degrees, though wind chill values will make it feel up to 15 degrees frostier.
Clear skies rule Monday night, when the mercury dips to around 14.
Tuesday arrives sunny, with air several points above freezing, though wind chill values will continue to have their negative impact. Tuesday night will be clear, with a low around 23.
Wednesday is a sunny one, and when air will begin to warm up, to about 20 degrees. Wednesday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 27.
The showers could return Thursday with a 40 percent chance, bringing warmer air to 43. Thursday night will be cloudy and cold, near 29.
Friday will bring 41-degree air under sunny skies.
Likewise, on Christmas Eve expect milder air, around 41, then overnight is when the mercury will return to the freezing mark.
A sunny Christmas Day will bring highs near 44.
