CT Trooper Charged After Rear-Ending Vehicle In Fairfield County, Police Say
A Connecticut State Police trooper was charged after a two-vehicle crash in Fairfield County. Sgt. Catherine Koeppel rear-ended another vehicle while driving on northbound Route 7 in Brookfield at about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, according to State Police. Police said both vehicles were damaged, and no injuries were reported. Koeppel was issued a misdemeanor summons on Wednesday, July 27, and charged with following too closely and evading responsibility, State Police reported. Teen Sentenced For Fatal Hit-Run Involving Mercedes-Benz In Greenwich
The teenager who admitted to the driver of a Mercedes-Benz in a 2016 fatal hit-and-run has been sentenced to jail time. Greenwich resident Andrew Schmidt, 19, has been sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty earlier this year to the April 2016 hit-and-run that took the life of Edward Setterberg on East Putnam Avenue in Greenwich. Schmidt was driving with his friends on East Putnam Avenue on the day of the fatal crash, when he struck Setterberg, 43, and sped away. Bridgeport Grocery Store Charged With Filing False Tax Returns
A grocer operating a store in Fairfield County is facing time behind bars and a $100,000 fine after pleading guilty to failing to pay more than $50,000 in taxes over several years. Oxford resident Samir Fattah, 55, has waived his right to be indicted and has pleaded guilty in federal court to filing a false tax return, John Durham, the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut announced this week.
