Business Owner Frederick Whipple Of Ridgefield, Staples HS Grad, Korean War Vet, Dies A Ridgefield business owner and Korean War veteran who marched in the town's Memorial Day Parade and helped renovate American Legion Post 78 hall, has died. Frederick Hutchins Whipple died Monday, June 3 in Ridgefield. He was 90. Son of Kathlyn (Winton) and Joseph Reed Whipple, he was born on Sept. 13, 1928, and grew up with his seven siblings in Wilton. He attended Staples High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Retired Stamford Firefighter George Thomas Searles Sr. Dies A longtime Stamford firefighter and U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Korean War has died at 84 years old. The Stamford Fire Department announced the death of retired firefighter George Thomas Searles, Sr., a former Stamford and Shelton resident who died on Friday, June 8. Born Feb. 5, 1934, Searles was a graduate of Stamford High School and went on to join the U.S. Navy in 1953 serving during the Korean War on the USS McGowan. Following his Navy tour, George went on to a 37-year career with the Stamford Fire Department where he served his hometown community. Searles was pre-deceased by …
