17-Year-Old Who Died During Hockey Game In NY Was 'Beacon Of Sportsmanship, Leadership'
The Long Island hockey community is mourning the loss of a rising young star who collapsed and died during a charity game over Thanksgiving weekend. Connor Kasin, age 17, lost consciousness at around 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, during an intermission at the Town of Oyster Bay Skating Center on Stewart Avenue in Bethpage, Nassau County Police said. Kasin, a senior defenseman at Massapequa High School, was given CPR by bystanders and, later, Nassau County Police medics. He was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital. Some Fairfield County high school fencing competitors were crowned as the best in Connecticut after earning top honors at the state championship. The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) has laid out its plans for all fall high school sports this year. Officials announced that all fall sports will have seasons this year, including football, with certain COVID-19-related protocols put in place to help curtail the spread of the virus. High school student-athletes in Connecticut will not be hitting the gridiron this fall as the football season has officially been canceled. The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference announced this week that due to the COVID-19 pandemic and chance of spreading the virus during full-contact football drills, the fall season has been canceled. Now Decides Fall Sports Conditioning Can Restart
Student-athletes have been given the green light by the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference to resume their conditioning programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the weekend, the CIAC announced that beginning on Monday, Aug. 24, schools can return to conditioning activities that were being conducted since early July. Three varsity baseball coaches at Ridgefield High School have been placed on administrative leave after extreme measures were taken to try and squeeze in a high school baseball game. A football coach at a high school in Westchester has been arrested for allegedly hitting a student-athlete in two separate incidents two years ago. According to the arrest affidavit, 44-year-old Sheddrick Wilson of Ossining, an assistant coach at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, was charged Friday with two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, after surrendering to police in White Plains. STAMFORD, Conn. — A coach was issued a summons and one player was injured when a fight broke out Friday at a freshman boys basketball game between Trinity Catholic and Norwalk High, according to the Connecticut Post.
