Atlanta Braves sign Kanekoa Texeira

By PAUL HERRMANN

(Bridgeport) – Bridgeport Bluefish team officials today announced that pitcher Kanekoa Texeira has had his contract purchased by the Atlanta Braves organization. He will report to Triple-A Gwinnett of the International League.

“Kanekoa has been a great asset to this team the past two seasons,” says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. “We are excited he is getting this opportunity and wish him the best of luck in his pursuit of returning to Major League Baseball.”

Texeira started in all nine games he appeared in for the Bluefish in 2014, posting a 3-2 record with a 3.31 ERA in 51.2 innings pitched. The 28-year-old has played two seasons at the Major League level from 2010-2011 with the Seattle Mariners and the Kansas City Royals, appearing in 49 games during that span and holding a career 4.66 ERA. Texeira pitched with Bridgeport to begin the 2013 season, as he appeared in 28 games in relief with a 3.18 ERA before having his contract purchased by the Cincinnati Reds. He would appear in 16 games for the Reds Triple-A affiliate Louisville, starting two of them, and finished the year with a 0-0 record and a 2.42 ERA. Texeira holds a career 27-23 record and a 3.10 ERA in the minor leagues in 268 appearances (22 starts).

Kanekoa was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 22nd round of the 2006 amateur draft out of Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, CA.
