The John Winthrop K-8 School is holding a talent show Thursday evening, and parent volunteer Evelyn Freeman said students and staff have thrown themselves into it.

"We started off rehearsing on March 30th with people not knowing what to do, and it is all coming along perfectly right now," she said. "Everybody is committed to this, and parents come to the rehearsal to support their children."

The show will be extra special because it will be held at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre at 263 Golden Hill St. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, and the show begins at 6 p.m., Freeman said. Admission is $5 per person with families of four or more charged $20.

All the money raised, including from the sale of food and drinks, will go toward different school initiatives, Freeman said.

Among the talent will be her daughter, Abigail, who is in second grade. She and Jada Hernandez will sing "Try," Freeman said

The acts range from singing to doing karate to solving the Rubik's Cube, Freeman said.

"It's open to everyone who has a talent," she said.

The event is one that brings, students, staff and parents together.

"We just want to have the parents involved, have the kids involved and bring some excitement to the school," Freeman said.

The school's principal, Selena Morgan, has been the main force behind the show, Freeman said.

"She has been very involved in the talent show and this will happen because she made it happen," she said.
