“I’m excited to hear what she has to say and excited at the idea of her being president,” Eckerd said from the line.
Eckerd supported Obama in 2008 as well as in 2012, and went door-to-door for his campaign. At this point in the election, she believes that Clinton is by far the “most qualified” candidate for presidential office.
“She may not yell the loudest — or be the most charismatic when it comes to policy — [but in] knowing how to handle things both domestically and foreign affairs, I think she’s far more experienced,” Eckerd said.
Eckerd said events like Clinton’s in Bridgeport are important to mobilize voters. She said that many years ago Tip O'Neill's neighbor didn’t vote for him simply because he didn’t ask for her vote.
But Clinton supporters and those who are curious to waited line for hours just to hear Clinton do just that. While the line was quite long, some of the Clinton supporters took the wait in stride.
“It’s always a good sign, right?” Mike Lawlor of New Haven said.
Clinton is not the only candidate holding ‘get out the vote’ events in Connecticut. GOP frontrunner Donald Trump held a rally at the Klein in Bridgeport Saturday.
Bernie Sanders plans to hold a campaign event on the New Haven Green later Sunday.
