The attack took place just before midnight, Thursday, March 21, in the area of Main Street and Wheeler Avenue, said Bridgeport Police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald.
Officers arrived on the scene and found the man suffering from at least six gunshot wounds, police said.
Detectives determined that a lone gunman approached the parked vehicle on foot, and shot into the passenger side of the car. The man, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was struck multiple times by gunfire and crawled out the driver's side of the car after being shot, Fitzgerald added.
The female driver and infant secured in a rear car seat were not injured, Fitzgerald said.
The unidentified victim was transported by medics to St. Vincent’s Medical Center and underwent surgery. He is listed in critical condition but is expected to survive, police said.
Officer located 15 spent shell casings at the scene and towed two vehicles for evidence processing.
