Rain Makes For Slow Commute Across Fairfield County

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Drivers are never happy when it rains, and Monday was no exception across Fairfield County with speeds of 25 mph or so on I-95 and the Merritt Parkway.

Slow-moving traffic was reported for the morning rush hour on I-95 south for 15 miles from Exit 26 in Bridgeport to Exit 13 in Norwalk, the Connecticut Department of Transportation said.

It may get worse, too, with an accident blocking the left lane on I-95 south Exit 14 for Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk, which is always a traffic chokepoint, DOT said. It was not clear how long it would take to clear the 7:50 a.m. crash.

More delays were reported for the 3-mile stretch on I-95 south from Exit 8 in Stamford to Exit 5 in Greenwich, DOT said.

Conditions were no better on the Merritt Parkway, where southbound traffic was backed up for 17 miles from Exit 52 in Trumbull to Exit 38 in Norwalk, DOT said.

When will conditions clear? Probably long after you are due to arrive at work.
