Grady, a Connecticut native born and raised in New Haven, attended Platt Tech in Milford and Connecticut School for Electronic Technicians before becoming a police officer in 1982. He was the first black motorcycle officer and the first tested detective in the Hamden Police Department.
In 2002, he retired from a highly decorated career as a detective and federal task force agent assigned to Connecticut State Police Narcotics Unit, DEA and FBI joint task force as well as being deputized by the U.S. Marshals service.
During his entire career in law enforcement, he was also a professional musician and accomplished stage, television and film actor, appearing in such shows as “Guiding Light,” “All My Children” and “Law & Order” as well as films like “Breaking Point” and “Diamond Ruff.”
After retirement, he was recruited by a Fortune 500 company and became an internal audit investigator who conducted civil and criminal investigations in multiple jurisdictions across the country. In 2009, he returned to government service as the first ever U.S. attorney’s internal investigator and in 2012, helped launch the U.S. attorney and governor’s anti-gun violence program called Project Longevity in New Haven.
In 2013, he was asked to create and run Project Longevity in Bridgeport where he successfully developed and maintained one of the city’s most notable programs. The program provides a multitude of support and services for ex-offenders and members of the community that seek to denounce street life and the violence that accompanies the group/gang lifestyle.
He has again been chosen to be the FBI community outreach specialist for Connecticut. In his new role, he educates community members, law enforcement and judicial members on ways to effectively build a safer and more tolerant state.
Two students from Park City Prep will be also be honored as part of Rotary Student Recognition Program.
