The meeting will include a presentation, a question-and-answer session and detailed detour route information.
The Route 8 Design-Build project involves the replacement of the superstructures (beams and concrete decks) of bridges on Route 8/25 in Bridgeport, over Lindley Street and Capital Avenue, about 2 miles north of Interstate 95.
Both bridges, which are about 44 years old and carry over 88,000 vehicles a day, are being replaced using a new method called "Design-Build," in which CTDOT selects a team of both a designer and a contractor to complete the entire project.
In addition, the department will use an accelerated bridge construction techniques for the Route 8 work. On this particular project, the use of prefabricated bridge units will reduce the duration of staged work and modified and/or reduced lane configurations. These techniques will reduce the time of construction impact on the public from two years to a total of four weeks this summer.
Area residents, businesses and commuters are encouraged to attend the public information meeting.
The meeting, from 6-8 p.m., will be held at the Bridgeport City Hall City Council Chambers. 45 Lyon Terrace.
