Connecticut Gas Prices Rising With Summer Heat, Travel

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- As the temperatures heat up in Fairfield County and families hit the highways for summer vacation, gas prices are also on the rise, according to AAA's weekly survey of fuel prices.

A gallon of regular gas in Connecticut today is $2.46, three cents higher than this time last week; but 39 cents lower than this time last year, AAA said.

Nationally, average prices today are $2.32, also up three cents; but down 42 cents compared to this time last year.

Rising crude oil prices, declining supplies and greater demand because of the cheaper prices are now fueling higher gas prices at the pump, AAA said.

AAA’s weekly survey of prices in four areas of the state found:

Greater Bridgeport/Stamford $2.52
Greater Hartford $2.44
New Haven/Meriden $2.45
New London/Norwich $2.45
Statewide Average: $2.46

California and Hawaii at came in the highest at $2.81 and $2.70, respectively, and Mississippi and Texas at $2.08 and $2.09, marked the state's with the lowest prices. Connecticut moved up one spot, to 13th place in terms of the highest prices in the nation.
