This year’s Annual Awards will take place at the Downtown Cabaret Theater, 263 Golden Hill St., Bridgeport, on Thursday, June 23.
The ceremony will recognize people whose life accomplishments normally go unrecognized; individuals who have graduated from WorkPlace programs and now serve as positive role models; employers and businesses that support efforts to promote diversity and lifelong learning; volunteers who dedicate their resources to the programs; and professionals who motivate and empower the clients.
The evening will begin with a reception at 5:15 p.m., followed by the ceremony at 6 p.m.
Paul Brodie, president of Housatonic Community College, will deliver the keynote address to the 60-plus award recipients and their guests.
In addition to recognizing individuals, awards will be presented to companies and organizations that demonstrate outstanding service to the communities they serve.
The Philanthropic Leadership Award will go to People’s United Community Foundation, and the Diversity Award will go to Columbus House Inc.
Several local employers will also be recognized for demonstrating outstanding commitment to workforce development.
This year’s President’s Award will be presented to the Re-entry Population in honor of ex-offenders who have overcome significant barriers to employment after incarceration.
Special guests will include Joseph M. Carbone, CEO and president of the WorkPlace; Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti; John Gomes, CAO of the city of Bridgeport; Lindy Lee Gold, of the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development; and David Morgan, CEO and president of TEAM Inc.
The WorkPlace conducts comprehensive planning, and coordinates regional workforce development policy and programs to prepare people for careers while strengthening the workforce for employers.
