Free Film Festival Continues At University Of Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Come enjoy award-winning movies at the University of Bridgeport's International Film Festival, which continues until Saturday, April 9. Everything is free unless noted.

The festival feature Oscar- and Academy Award-winning foreign films, the Taste of the World food extravaganza and other events. The six-day event began on Monday, April 4.

"We have students from more than 80 countries at UB, so the annual International Festival really is a tremendous opportunity to learn about every corner of the globe and about cultures one doesn't always hear about," said Director of Campus Activities and Civic Engagement Kelli Meyer. "It's fun for all ages -- from school children to our senior citizens, and a great way to travel and explore without a passport."

Tuesday, April 5

"Paradise Now" -- 7 p.m. at Littlefield Recital Hall, Arnold Bernhard Center, 84 Iranistan Ave. -- Two childhood friends are recruited for a suicide bombing, but a mishap gives them time to question the plan. The film won a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film. 

Wednesday, April 6

Taste of the World Food Celebration -- 4-6 p.m., Great Room, Cox Student Center, 244 University Ave.

"Life is Beautiful" -- 7 p.m., Little Field Recital Hall, Arnold Bernhard Center, 84 Iranistan Ave. -- A Jewish-Italian librarian and his son get caught up in the Holocaust, and he uses will, humor and imagination to protect his son from the camp's dangers. The film won three Academy Awards and an Oscar.

Thursday, April 7

foreign language lecture in Arabic -- 12:20-1:20 p.m., Discovery Pavilion, Wahlstrom Library, 126 Park Ave.

Friday, April 8

Holi Festival Celebration -- noon, People's Park, in front of Cox Student Center -- Celebrate spring's arrival with this festival of colors: powdered color will be provided.

Saturday, April 9

International Festival Performance Showcase -- 7 p.m., Mertens Theater, Arnold Bernhard Center, 84 Iranistan Ave. -- Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $3 for students, $5 for faculty and staff, and $7 for guests and community members. Buy tickets here.
