Classes are held at 12:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the senior living community, located on the Bridgeport-Fairfield town line.
The class is led by Cindy McGuire, The Watermark’s fitness director, who designed a special program of balance and strengthening exercises that specifically target muscles sometimes affected by Parkinson’s. She focuses on large muscles groups initially, such as the legs and back and then will add light weights and balls for upper body strength and endurance. All of the movements done will assist in improving balance as well as flexibility and stamina.
“The goal of our Parkinson’s Fitness Class is to teach people basic exercise moves that not only give them a light workout, but provide them with simple exercises they can do at home to improve their mobility and overall functional abilities throughout the day,” said McGuire.
Due to a limited number of spaces, reservations and a small participation fee are required for the fitness class. To RSVP, contact Cindy McGuire at 203-373-6108.
