The unemployment rate in May was 5.7, and 5.5 in June of 2015. The number of unemployed state residents (2,300, 2.1%) increased in June.
“Connecticut’s large swing in job growth from May to June mirrored a similar pattern nationally,” said Andy Condon, Director of the Office of Research. “While we can’t pinpoint an exact cause, it seems likely to be due to a change in seasonal pattern rather than an actual swing in labor markets.”
The state added 7,900 jobs (0.47%) in June 2016 to a level of 1,693,400, seasonally adjusted.
Connecticut has now recovered 99,200 positions, or 83.3% of the 119,100 seasonally adjusted total jobs that were lost in the state during the March 2008 - February 2010 employment downturn.
Job gains were noted in two of the four Connecticut labor market areas. In the New Haven region, 5,600 jobs were added, a two percent gain. The Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk region added 3,330 jobs, an increase of eight-tenths of a percent.
Over the year, the New Haven region has added 1.9 percent more jobs, while the Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk region has added 1.3 percent more jobs.
