More than $300,000 in damages to a Fairfax County home could've been avoided, had the smoker in the house properly discarded materials, officials said. According to the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue department, the fire at a home on the 3000 block of Steven Martin Drive in Oakton broke out just before 9 a.m. on April 17 due to "improperly discarded smoking materials." An SUV crashed into a utility pole in Monmouth County, shutting down a road and knocking out power, authorities said. In a Facebook post, Wall Township police said a vehicle hit the pole along Hospital Road at around 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 25. No injuries were reported in the crash. A Long Island man who police say has been arrested 46 times has been charged with 10 new larcenies across the region. Emmitt Smith, age 43, of Bellport, was charged on Wednesday, April 24, with the larcenies that occurred across Nassau County, according to Nassau County Police. Blaze Breaks Out At Eatery In Westchester
Firefighters raced to put out a blaze that broke out inside a fried chicken restaurant in Westchester. The blaze happened on Wednesday morning, April 24 at Kennedy's Fried Chicken in White Plains at 4 East Post Rd. (Route 22), according to the White Plains Fire Department. The fire did not end up being too severe, firefighters said. The cause of the blaze was not released. A 50-year-old Berkshire County man is accused of driving a minor to have sex, authorities said. Paul Newton-Irelan is charged with transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, the US Attorney for Massachusetts said. Newton-Irelan allegedly drove the minor to New York and Massachusetts on Nov. 26, 2023, as part of a scheme for sex, authorities said.
