Few names carried more weight in Montgomery County fire and rescue circles than Chief David Dwyer.
The longtime Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad leader, mentor, and architect of generations of volunteer service has died, according to announcements shared Tuesday, May 26, by fire officials.
For more than six decades, Dwyer was a constant presence in Montgomery County emergency services.
Not just at ceremonies and banquets, but on firegrounds, rescue calls, command scenes, and inside the institutions that helped shape the county’s modern volunteer fire and EMS system.

Roy Somers, a Galloway Township resident, recently died, according to a GoFundMe fundraiser set up to support his family.
"Roy was many things to many people: a son, a brother, a friend, an advocate for kids, a coach, a fellow lifter.... but most importantly - a husband and a dad," Stacy Merkh, who organized the fundraiser said.
Somers is survived by his wife, Tara, his daughters, Lorelei and Gwendolyn and his two dogs, Chilli and Max.
