A Long Island driver was convicted of his fifth DWI, but he’ll remain free until sentencing, authorities said Monday, Aug. 10.
Pablo Aguilar Alvarez, 36, was found guilty Friday, Aug. 7, and prosecutors believe he might flee before sentencing on Oct. 2, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said.
“And even now, despite the jury’s verdict, there is nothing to stop him from once again getting behind the wheel and endangering the lives of Suffolk County residents,” District Attorney Ray Tierney said.

Driver Pulled From Wreckage After Truck, Minivan Collide Head-On On Route 52 In Lake Carmel
A driver was freed from a mangled vehicle after a head-on crash involving a pickup truck and minivan on a busy Putnam County road.
The two-vehicle crash happened on Route 52 in the Lake Carmel area on Saturday, Aug. 8, at around 10:25 p.m., according to the Lake Carmel Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived within minutes and found the pickup truck and minivan with heavy damage, with one person trapped inside a vehicle, the department said.

A retired NYPD officer is accused of fatally shooting a well-known Westchester County man's dog during a confrontation along a busy roadway, according to reports.
James J. Molloy, 61, of Yorktown, is facing felony charges after allegedly shooting and killing Luke, a 12-year-old shepherd-husky mix, during an incident on Route 118 in Yorktown on Wednesday, Aug. 5, as Daily Voice previously reported.
