Nicole Baker, 50, of Wethersfield was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 13, and charged with first-degree larceny, according to inspectors with the Chief State’s Attorney’s Office.
The money came from wage and bank garnishments ordered through the New Britain and Hartford Superior Courts, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.
Baker collected the funds between December 2023 and June 2026, the affidavit alleges. She kept the money instead of sending it to creditors who had won court judgments, authorities said.
The State Marshal Commission suspended Baker in June 2026.
State marshals enforce civil court orders. Their duties include collecting money from wages and bank accounts to satisfy judgments. They run independent businesses under the oversight of a commission.
Baker was released on a $30,000 non-surety bond, authorities said. If convicted on the Class B felony of first-degree larceny, Baker faces up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $15,000, or both.
