Nelson Acevedo, a 51-year-old Uniondale man, was arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping, the Nassau County Police Department said.
The boy was walking on the sidewalk near the intersection of Chester Street and Front Street shortly after 4 p.m. on Monday, April 13 when Acevedo attempted to lure him into a nearby home by offering him money, investigators said.
But instead of taking the bait, the boy refused and walked away, prompting Acevedo to grab him by the wrist, according to authorities. The boy managed to pull away and quickly walked toward Front Street, police said.
Acevedo gave up on the attempt, and the boy walked away without physical injuries, cops said. A police report was filed the following day, and officers arrested Acevedo on Wednesday, April 15 at his home in Uniondale, according to authorities.
In addition to second-degree attempted kidnapping, he was charged with unlawful imprisonment and child endangerment. His arraignment was scheduled for Thursday.
