'Miracle of Morristown:' How Woman Who Lost Leg After Being Struck By Train Saved Her Own Life Lisa Fitzgerald was two weeks shy of her birthday and commuting to New York when she lost her leg after being struck by train in Morristown on Saturday, May 4.  Fitzgerald was on the Morristown platform with the injury when responders arrived at the scene, just before 7:25 p.m., a spokesperson for NJ Transit said.  She saved her own life by pulling herself off the train tracks, onto the platform and screaming for help, according to a fundraiser set up to support Fitzgerald. Shots Fired In Newark: Police Gunshots were fired in Newark on the early morning of Tuesday, May 21, authorities said. At 12:41 a.m., police responded to the 300 block of 7th Avenue and confirmed gunshots were fired, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. A search of the area did not locate any victims, Fragé said. The incident remains under investigation.

At 3:35 p.m., police responded to South 11th Street and South Orange Avenue on a report of shots fired, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. KIPP Rise Academy, a charter school for students from 5th grade to 8th grade, and West Side High School are located minutes from the shooting location.  Police did not locate any gunshot victims, Fragé said. The investigation is ongoing, Fragé said.
